9 June 2016Renewing the American Library in Paris
The impending renovation of the Library’s premises has evolved over three years of conversation and planning, and drawing and choosing, and budgeting and financing. Now the construction of new and renewed physical spaces is upon us.
We will be displaying drawings, renderings, and simulations of the new Library in our display case through Saturday 15 May, the last day before we close for several months of construction work. The drawings can only begin to suggest what the new Library will feel like, let alone how we will use it – along with the new virtual resources that go with it. We hope this exhibit will give our friends and members a sense of the excitement we all feel for the re-imagined Library of autumn 2016.
The renovation of the Library, the most significant in its half-century at this address, would not be possible without the generosity and leadership reflected in two significant gifts, from Edward and Mary Lee Turner and from the Florence Gould Foundation, along with several other major gifts from those who love the American Library.
For more about the project, please take home a copy of the spring issue of Ex Libris, the Library’s newsletter, which also includes details about all that the Library will continue to offer its members during the three months of closure this late spring and summer.
