Ex Libris, the Library’s quarterly newsletter, is now available. Pick up a copy in the Members’ Lounge and read about the Library’s activities over the summer and the exciting new programs and events in store for the coming season. You’ll also learn more about the Library’s intrepid new director, Jeffrey Hawkins, a former United States Ambassador, who begins his tenure this fall.
On a historical note, Ex Libris—originally a monthly literary review—was launched in 1923, just three years after the Library’s opening. Ernest Hemingway and Gertrude Stein contributed book reviews, which can be read in the bound volumes of the early editions, available by request from the Library’s special collections.
Starting on Saturday 16 January, the Library will close each night at 18h in accordance with the new national curfew.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Library will open early to compensate for the reduced evening hours.
