Privacy is Power
with philosopher and professor Carissa Véliz
An urgent and hands-on guide for taking back our right to privacy, Privacy is Power is full of simple and effective analogies that make it clear how companies are stealing our private data, why this is harmful, and what can be done about it, while offering practical solutions for both policymakers and private citizens.
Carissa Véliz is a philosopher, an associate professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and the Institute for Ethics in AI, as well as a tutorial fellow at Hertford College, at the University of Oxford. She came to Privacy is Power from a philosophical perspective: while researching her grandparents, refugees from the Spanish Civil War, she began to wonder if she had a right to the information she was discovering about them. Véliz’s journey to her treatise on privacy was personal and organic; the academics came later.
