Carissa Véliz

Carissa Véliz is a philosopher, an associate professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and the Institute for Ethics in AI, as well as a tutorial fellow at Hertford College, at the University of Oxford. She came to Privacy is Power from a philosophical perspective: while researching her grandparents, refugees from the Spanish Civil War, she began to wonder if she had a right to the information she was discovering about them. Véliz’s journey to her treatise on privacy was personal and organic; the academics came later.
