This season, the Library invites you to celebrate the many ways we imagine, remember, and return home from afar with Letters Home, our series of curated cultural programs and hands-on activities for readers of every age.
A Curated Series
Our Letters Home cultural program will explore the many ways we imagine, remember, and return to home from afar. Whether home is a place, a person, a language, a community, or even a moment in time, it is rarely fixed; it is something we carry with us, rediscover, and continually redefine. This series of events explore the changing meaning of home, the imaginative return to places left behind, the forces of nostalgia and exile, literary letters and correspondence, the epistolary voice, and the enduring human impulse to reach across distance through words.
Write It, Sort It, Send It.
As part of Letters Home, the Library will host a rotating series of hands-on activities centered on the art and craft of letter writing, from letter-writing stations stocked with vintage stationery to mail-sorting play for kids who want to try their hand as mail carriers.

Step into our Letters Home post offices, now open in the Turner Commons and in the Children’s Library and fully stocked with pens, a clackety vintage typewriter, and free stationery.
We invite you to write a letter to the Library, send a dispatch to a far-off friend, or draft an overdue fan note to your favorite author. If you prefer to keep things simple, just jot down a few thoughts on your day and the stack of books you plan to carry home.
Slide it into our mailbox with a delivery address and we’ll mail for you. You can also choose to share it with us: throughout the Letters Home season, we’ll be selecting and featuring standout letters on our website and in our newsletter e-Libris.
