Join us for the Library’s seventh Mock Caldecott event, and help us celebrate children’s books with outstanding artistic merit! We’ll announce the winner of our Mock Caldecott on the Library blog in January.

The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the “most distinguished American picture book for children”. This year we’re going to have our own event to try and predict the winner – and we’ll choose some of our own favorites while we’re at it.

Our children’s and teen services team have selected nominees based on professional reviews and a careful examination of titles (there is no shortlist for the award). From 21 December – 21 January these books will be available in the Children’s Library, and visitors are invited to submit reviews for each book they read. You can read a book (or all of them!), fill out a ballot to rate the story and illustrations and then cast your vote for your favorite picture book of 2019. We’ll read last year’s Mock Caldecott winner and a selection of titles from our list of nominees, then each participant will have a chance to read and rate the titles available. All ages are welcome to participate, however small children will need an adult to help them with each part of our activities.

Adults and children alike are welcome to participate!

No advance registration is required for this activity. Each child attending must have their own Library card, or be covered by a family membership otherwise the non-member fee applies. Unless otherwise stated, all programs are free for library members and 10€ for non-members. Caregivers are expected to familiarize themselves with these guidelines so that we can provide a pleasant library environment for all patrons.
