Caldecott Party (ages 6–12)

Sat 28 January 2023 @ 11 h 00 - 12 h 00

Learn about the legendary children's book prize for illustration, find out about the history of this prestigious prize, and vote on your favorite picture book from the past year.

The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the “most distinguished American picture book for children.” This year, we’ll hold an event to try and predict the winner—and we’ll choose some of our own favorites while we’re at it.

Our children’s and teen services team have selected nominees based on professional reviews and a careful examination of titles (there is no shortlist for the award). On 28 January these books will be available in the Children’s Library, and visitors are invited to submit reviews for each book they read. You can read a book (or all of them!), fill out a ballot to rate the story and illustrations and then cast your vote for your favorite picture book of 2022.

All ages are welcome to participate, however small children will need an adult to help them with each part of our activities.
