American Library in Paris Book Group

Banned Books by French and American Authors

Wednesdays, 17h30–19h00 (Spaces Open)

Book bans are increasing in the US and have been a continuing problem and issue globally for centuries. Our group will read books by French and/or American authors and in some cases by American authors written in France. Our discussions will evaluate the impact on either or both countries as well as the influence in each country. Additionally, we will explore the reasons for the banning including target audiences and relevance of theme to the social milieu at the time of writing as well as banning. If banned in one but not both countries, we will explore why and the reactions to the bans in the respective countries.
