Dorothy Reeder recalls: “From the beginning requests came to us from all parts of France, Algeria, Syria, and even from the British headquarters in London to take care of their men in France until they could […] ship reading material to them. […] When the soldier finished reading his books and magazines, he passed them on to another or turned them in to the camp library or canteen.” By the end of June 1940, 100,000 books have been shipped to British and French soldiers.
The Library has reduced operating hours from Tuesday 15 July 2025 through Monday 25 August 2025, inclusive.
