Alexandra Vangsnes, Library Assistant and Book Award Coordinator, talks about getting her first library card, some of her favorite reads, and what she’s enjoying reading right now. This is part of a series of interviews with Library staff.

What is your first memory of being in a library?

Getting my first library card! I must have been about three. I was so proud.

What books are you reading now?

The Book of Dust by Phillip Pullman and Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset

What’s the last great book you’ve read?

Autumn by Karl Ove Knausgaard

What influences your reading choices? Recommendations from friends or a good review?

I have a very, very long list going of books I want to read on Goodreads (a website for book-lovers). Most of them are books that I see at the Library or that are recommended to me by Library members or staff. I have enough to keep me busy for years to come!

What book do you find yourself rereading often?

Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman and everything by Hermann Hesse

What kind of reader were you as a child?

Voracious! I especially loved reading fantasy and nonfiction books about ancient civilizations or modern cultures around the world–anything with maps.
