Join us for a special virtual event to connect, and share and discuss our favorite reads.
To foster discussion among our community of young readers, we’re hosting this special event just in time for Thanksgiving. Bring along your current or most recent fiction or nonfiction read in English to talk about with the group during our online event. Children’s and Teens’ Services Librarian Kirsty will lead participants in the creation of apple cookies, then as they bake, the group will take turns sharing their latest reads.
Please prepare the following items in advance of this event:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 egg
1 1/2 cup of flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 medium apple, chopped (1 cup) (I use pink lady apples as they are sweet but apple of your choice)
Will also need a tray, and baking paper. Oven set to 180.
During the meeting, each child will be asked to:
- read the first line of the book they’ve brought along the meeting
- briefly tell the rest of the group about the book (genre, favorite characters, setting…)
- tell the group whether they recommend the book, and why
Parents are required to join in and assist their children with the steps of this baking exercise.
This program requires advance registration, and is open to Library members. Click HERE to register. This program is free for Library members. Each child attending must have their own Library card, or be covered by a family membership. Registered participants will be sent a link to join the event via Zoom. Parents and caregivers are responsible for connecting to the meeting, and monitoring their children’s use of the internet.
