Join us for a special virtual event to connect and share, and to discuss our favorite reads.
To foster discussion among our community of young readers, we’re hosting this special event for the holiday season. Bring along your current or most recent fiction or nonfiction read in English to talk about with the group during our online baking event. Children’s and Teens’ Services Librarian Kirsty will lead participants in the creation of candy cane cookies, then as the cookies bake, the group will take turns sharing their latest reads.
Please prepare the following items in advance of this event:
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter (softened)
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder/raising agent
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
Participants will also need a cookie sheet, and baking paper, and a working oven. Adult assistance is required for the duration of the event.
During the event, each child will be asked to:
- read the first line of the book they’ve brought along the meeting
- briefly tell the rest of the group about the book (genre, favorite characters, setting…)
- tell the group whether they recommend the book, and why
Parents are required to join in and assist their children with the steps of this baking exercise.
This program requires advance registration, and is open to Library members. Click HERE to register. This program is free for Library members.
