American designer Oscar de la Renta passed away in Kent, Connecticut at the age of 82. He was born in born Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the youngest of seven children and the only boy. His fashion career spanned 50 years and he worked with Cristóbal Balenciaga, Lanvin, Elizabeth Arden and others before he started his own fashion house under his own name in the late 1960s. Since 1965, de la Renta has been designing and dressing glamorous gowns for American high society and five First Ladies (Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush and, most recently, Michelle Obama).
