2 July 2022Books To Help You Plan a Staycation in Paris
10 August 2022With the temperature rising outside, we’ve compiled a list of books that feature hot weather or heatwaves here at the American Library in Paris this July.
Authors often use hot weather and heatwaves at moments of intensity, helping to build tension between characters in the run-up to an often explosive climax.
From characters who can’t keep their hands off one another on a sultry summer’s day, to fiery revelations, strained and exhausting midday meals where time feels suspended, and children running riot under the influence of sunburn and hot temperatures, this literary trope guarantees drama and suspense in equal measure.
We’ve curated a selection of literary heatwaves in the Members’ Lounge, all available to check out and read, just in time for some real-life hot weather here in Paris.
On the hottest day of the summer of 1935, thirteen-year-old Briony Tallis sees her older sister Cecilia strip off her clothes and plunge into the fountain in the garden of their country house, setting off a chain of events that will change the lives of all three.
