American Library in Paris Book Group

Queer Womanhood: Fiction and Memoir

Wednesdays, 19h30–20h30 (Spaces Open)

This book club is for anyone who wishes they knew and read more books by queer authors, who wants to explore the world from the perspective of the historically-marginalized or who just wants to read exceptional literature. From memoirs to fiction to a graphic novel, the books this group will read and discuss take readers deep into the lives of queer women with disparate visions of the world. Key themes include gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, class, domestic abuse, homophobia, and family. Key questions include: Is there such a thing as “queer” literature? Why is memoir such a poignant genre for queer women? How do race, class, and religion interact with gender identity and sexual orientation? What does queer family mean for women and is it overidealized?
