American Library in Paris Book Group

War and Peace: A Year-Long Slow Reading Group

Wednesdays, 19h30-20h45

Join us for a year-long literary adventure through Tolstoy’s War and Peace. With 361 chapters, the novel lends itself perfectly to a “chapter-a-day” rhythm—one chapter each day (don’t worry, they’re short!) throughout the year, with a day of break between volumes. This achievable pace allows you to savour the story, its characters, and Tolstoy’s world one day at a time.

Each month, we’ll gather—mostly in person at the Library—to discuss key themes, favourite scenes, and the questions that arise along the way. Between meetings, a WhatsApp group will offer a space for informal conversation, encouragement, and shared discoveries.

To support your journey, host Anubha will provide a reading schedule, character lists, and gentle motivation to help you navigate the novel’s many threads and stay inspired all year.

Whether you’ve always meant to read War and Peace or are returning to it with fresh eyes, this slow reading club offers a welcoming, communal way to experience one of the greatest novels ever written—together and one chapter at a time.

Note: This group will be capped at 12 participants, and will be accepting new members until 8 December 2025.
