The regular support of members and friends of the Library is essential in ensuring its health and vitality. Thanks to gifts, grants, and other generous contributions, the Library is celebrating over 100 years of service in Paris. Please consider making a gift to the Library today.
Benefits to giving
USA: The American Library in Paris is a United States 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of Delaware. Contributions are tax-deductible in the USA to the full extent allowed by law and will be acknowledged with a tax receipt.
France: The American Library in Paris is an organisme d’intérêt général for French tax purposes. Donations made by French residents may be eligible for a credit against French income taxes up to 66% of the amount of the gift as provided for by French CGI article 200. Gifts will be acknowledged with a tax receipt.
The Library receives no regular government funding and relies on the generosity of its community.
Ways to give
One Time Gift: Your gift can be made in US Dollars or Euros and you can use cash, check, or credit card.
Appreciated Stock: If you are a U.S. resident taxpayer, you will avoid all capital gain taxes, will receive a tax deduction, and can deduct it up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income.
Donor–Advised Fund: A DAF allows donors to make a charitable contribution into the fund, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants from the fund over time.

A charitable gift from your estate is simple to implement. If you would like to include a gift to the Library in your will, please use the Library’s correct legal name appears in all documents: The American Library in Paris Inc.

Major Events
Annual Gala Dinner
Every year, the American Library in Paris hosts a gala dinner featuring a prominent speaker. These events are a major source of income to the Library through individual participation, program sponsorships and table sponsorships.
Recent Gala speakers have included Maureen Dowd, Andrew Sean Greer, Ann Patchett, Zadie Smith, Susan Orlean, Martin Amis, Salman Rushdie, Stacy Schiff, John Irving, Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, Antony Beevor, Joyce Carol Oates, Sebastian Faulks, Scott Turow, and Christopher Buckley.
Book Award
The Book Award was launched in 2013 and carries a $5,000 prize, which is supported by generous funding from the Florence Gould Foundation. The past recipients of the prize reflect the diversity of intellectual and literary output that the Book Award seeks to recognize.
The event is invitation-only and is open to the annual donors of the American Library in Paris. It is the largest donor appreciation event of the year.
Vision 2027
In September 2024, the American Library in Paris unveiled Vision 2027, a three-year strategic plan to enhance the Library’s impact and outreach from now to 2027. The plan centers on four key streams of action: Illuminate, Champion, Empower, and Ignite—each aimed at deepening the Library’s connection with its local and global communities, fostering greater engagement, and expanding access to its services.
