Stories featured in this event include picture books such as Saturday by Oge Mora and Sidewalk Flowers by JonArno Lawson\, illustrated by Sydney Smith (pictured here). We’ll also sing songs and practice rhymes. \nThis program is entirely in English\, and no translation will be provided. This participatory program is intended to encourage children to actively engage with stories. There There was one of the New York Times Book Review’s 10 Best Books of the Year\, and won the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize and the Pen/Hemingway Award. There There was also longlisted for the National Book Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. His most recent novel\, Wandering Stars\, was published in February 2024. Orange is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. He was born and raised in Oakland\, California. \nDaniel Levin Becker is the author of Many Subtle Channels and What’s Good. His translations from the French include books by\, among others\, Georges Perec\, Laurent Mauvignier\, Jakuta Alikavazovic\, and Éric Chevillard. Citchens\, Viet Thanh Nguyen and Chris Pavone\, alongside documentary photographer Peter Van Agtmael\, bring their perspectives together to paint a sensitive portrait of a fractured country\, where the personal constantly sheds light on the political. \nThis event will be moderated by Curator of Cultural Programs at the American Library in Paris\, Rachel Donadio. \nAbout Festival America: \nThe 12th edition of AMERICA will take place in Vincennes from 24–27 September 2026\, welcoming over 60 American authors to celebrate 250 years of the United States through North American literature and culture.\n \nEvery two years since 2002\, the AMERICA festival has brought together writers from North America. Together with Madeleine Schwartz\, editor-in-chief of The Dial and co-editor of How We See It: The World Looks at America in the Age of Trump\, they will explore how journalists around the world are reporting on an era defined by shifting alliances\, drone warfare\, and competing visions of America’s global role. \nAbout the speakers: \nNataliya Gumenyuk is a Ukrainian journalist and author specializing in foreign affairs and conflict reporting. She is the co-founder and CEO of the Public Interest Journalism Lab\, which fosters constructive discussion around complex social issues. After Russia’s full-scale invasion\, the organization co-founded The Reckoning Project to document war crimes. As a foreign correspondent\, Gumenyuk has reported from more than 50 countries and regularly contributes to Foreign Affairs\, the Guardian\, and the Atlantic\, etc. She is the author of several documentaries and books\, including The Lost Island\, The Maidan Tahrir\, and The Scariest Days of My Life. We’ll have all the supplies you need to create original festive decorations. Wrongfully arrested in Russia in March 2023 on fabricated espionage charges\, Gershkovich spent 500 days in prison before his release in a landmark prisoner exchange. In this urgent conversation\, he reflects on his experience of captivity\, the enduring importance of a free press\, and the contradictions of contemporary Russia. \nAbout the speaker: \nEvan Gershkovich is a foreign correspondent for the Wall Street Journal based in Berlin. Born in New Jersey to Soviet émigrés\, he lived in Russia for more than five years before his 2023 arrest and subsequent sixteen-month imprisonment on false espionage charges. His writing has appeared in the New York Times\, the Economist\, and Foreign Policy\, and he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2025 as part of an investigative team for the Journal. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]This event for children ages 1–3 and their caregivers features 30 minutes of stories\, songs\, and rhymes. Stories presented during our Toddler Time programs include short picture books and board books such as Feast for 10 by Cathryn Falwell and A Parade of Elephants by Kevin Henkes  (pictured here)\, which will be featured during this session. \nToddler Time sessions are hosted by Children’s and Teens’ Services staff members\, and include age-appropriate stories selected by the Library’s Children’s and Teens’ services librarians. Enjoy stories\, music\, movement and rhymes and help develop your child’s early literacy skills. Stay for play and social time after the event. \nEach child must be accompanied by an adult chaperone\, and chaperones are required to remain with their children for the duration of the program. Parents and caregivers are expected to sit with their children beside them\, or in their laps\, and participate in the program. But actively making music—with our voices and our bodies—is important to children’s overall development. Since 1987\, Music Together\, has introduced millions of children\, parents\, and teachers to the joys of music-making and the powerful benefits of having music in their lives. In our family workshops children and parents learn together through active exploration and live\, meaningful interaction. So\, take out the earbuds and pick up the instruments we were all given at birth—ourselves! Each child (aged 0–5) should accompany one of their favorite grownups. \nAbout Stacey Pavesi Debré:  An American in Paris since 2014\, Stacey has been passionate about music and learning her whole life. She studied piano and string bass\, joined choirs\, orchestras\, a capella groups and musical theaters\, and worked as a vocalist in Japan and a singing bartender in NYC. In 2017\, Stacey founded Bébé Music Box to bring Music Together’s award-winning music and movement classes to families and schools in Paris. Our weekly mixed-age family classes are a fun\, dynamic\, and inspiring way for families to connect through music.
