DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Interested in trying your hand at creative writing? Do you need tips to take your stories to the next level? Experienced teen writers and newcomers are all welcome to join this workshop with author Charlene Allen on how you can draw inspiration from your life to create compelling stories. \nDrinks and light snacks will be provided by the Library. \nAbout Charlene Allen: Charlene Allen loves writing\, reading\, and talking about books with writers and readers of all ages. Her work in the world includes supporting community organizations to fight injustice\, especially the beast called mass incarceration. Charlene’s activism\, as well as her adventures across the globe\, inform her writing. She received her MFA from the New School\, her JD from Northeastern University\, and her BA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Charlene is the author of Play the Game\, called\, “Fast-paced\, insightful\, and highly relevant\,” by Angela Y. Davis. Charlene’s newest book\, My Fairy God Somebody\, is a one-book Baltimore city-wide selection and a junior library guild gold standard book. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]What’s your learning style? Are you a city mouse or a country mouse? How can you maximize your potential for growth when you head off to university? You should have a “dream\,” a “reach\,” a “target\,” and a “likely” school on your list as you plan for university. What do those terms mean\, and which schools would fit those descriptions for you individually? \nOne-on-one coaching on career exploration and college list building will be available for those who attend this presentation. \nAbout Ashley Miller: Ashley Miller started her love affair with both the English Language and teaching at Bucknell University. After a brief stint in show biz as the talent assistant for actor David Morse\, her career as a teacher began\, with her time in the DC Public School system earning her a “teacher of the year” nomination. Prior to leaving the United States\, she was the Education Enrichment Specialist at Project H.O.M.E in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania. In France\, Ashley has been a member of the fac at both CentraleSupelec and Universite de Lorraine (lectrice)\, a board member of the American Women’s Group of Paris\, a volunteer at Caritas Moselle and Enfants du Monde\, and a proud member and judge of the Paris Spelling Bee at the American Library. In the past\, participants were asked to shoot an arrow as straight as Katniss\, prove a knowledge of the gods that rivals Percy and Magnus\, identify the villains in the room\, and decide on the perfect spell faster than a magical maji. Wands\, arrows\, and other supplies will be provided.
