DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In the evening on Saturday 29 October\, the American Library in Paris will turn into a Haunted Library\, with guided tours throughout the dark\, and winding Library stacks. Grab your bravest friends\, and explore the Library as you’ve never seen it before. Tours last 20-30 minutes\, and must be booked in advance. Short horror films created by the Library’s Master Shot Film Club will be screened in the Library’s Reading Room\, followed by a costume contest at 20h30. \nLight snacks and refreshments will be provided. \nTICKETS REQUIRED: Tickets must be purchased in advance. Members may purchase tickets at the Children’s & Teens’ Services Desk beginning on Saturday 1 October: 10€ per person (Library members)\, 20€ per person (non-members). Jessica is a singer\, vocal arranger\, music teacher and songwriter. She studied vocal performance at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London where she graduated with first class honours. When in London\, she was apart of professional choir ProVoc. In Paris\, Jessica runs VOXXY\, an a cappella choir for women (whether they sing professionally or not!) She believes that music is for everyone!  Jessica is also the lead vocalist of M U U N E. She works as a music teacher at Rock U. where she teaches voice\, bass\, ukulele\, keys and guitar. DESCRIPTION:Farewell\, Kirsty\n\nall ages\n \n\n\n  \nJoin us for a Scotland and unicorn-themed farewell party for Librarian Kirsty McCulloch Reid \nChildren’s and Teens’ Services Librarian and YAFF Coordinator Kirsty McCulloch Reid will be leaving the American Library in Paris at the end of the summer to relocate back to Scotland. Kirsty’s contributions since she first began at the Library in 2015 are innumerable. She spearheaded the effort to grow YAFF to the incredible festival it has become\, and she set a very high bar for accessibility in our catalog\, along with assisting voracious readers find great books every day she comes to work. Kirsty will remain a part of the library community\, and will continue as YAFF Coordinator on a volunteer basis for 2023. Two farewell celebrations will be hosted for Library members: one on Saturday 6 August at 11h00 for children ages 0–12 and their families\, and other on Saturday 6 August at 14h00 for teens. \n\nImportant information: This event is for Library members\, and advance registration is required. DESCRIPTION:How to Tell a Story\nwith Charlotte Sebag-Montefiore \nFor ages 8–12 \n\nJoin author Charlotte Sebag-Montefiore for an interactive writing workshop. Charlotte will lead participants in the creation of their own original stories. \nEach child (aged 8–12) may participate in the program on their own\, while their chaperone remains inside the Library.  \nAbout Charlotte Sebag-Montefiore: Charlotte Sebag-Montefiore’s many years of experience as a clinical psychologist in the NHS\, and as a mother and grandmother\, has helped her produce books which children love. Charlotte loves dinosaurs and animals\, and Charlotte really enjoys rhymes and riddles! Her books\, Who Am I?\, More Animal Riddles and More Animal Riddles from the Sea combine her interest in animals\, with her love of rhyme and riddles. Her book Herbie and the T. Rex includes dinosaur characters who each deal with the issues confronting them in their own way. Charlotte has been to over 40 schools where she enjoys giving workshops related to poetry and writing poems\, stories and writing stories\, dinosaurs and animals. DESCRIPTION:Summer Reading Challenge\n\nFor children and teens of all ages\n \n\n  \n  \nHow does the Children’s Summer Reading Challenge work?   \nLibrary members who are interested in participating must register for the Summer Reading Challenge: Read the Universe (for ages 0–12) online. Registered participants may then stop by the Children’s and Teens’ Services Desk at the Library to pick up their Challenge Cards or download them online. For each day that you read 30 minutes or more\, fill in one of the spaces on the card. After five days\, the card will be complete. When a Challenge Card is completed\, stop by the Children’s and Teens’ Services Desk to drop off your Challenge Card(s) in our raffle box and enter to win great prizes. A raffle will be held each week throughout the summer. The more challenges you complete\, the more chances you have to win. For young children\, being read to counts as well! \n\nComplete as many challenges as you can between 18 June and 27 August 2022 and turn in your challenge cards at the Children’s and Teens’ Services Desk by 27 August to be entered into the grand prize drawing\, and earn your certificate of participation. \n  \nHow does the 10 Book Challenge for Teens work? \nLibrary members who are interested in participating must register for the 10 Book Challenge (for ages 12–18) online. Registered participants may then stop by the Children’s and Teens’ Services Desk at the Library to pick up their Challenge Cards or download them online. For each challenge completed\, teens win a new book! When you’ve completed a challenge\, stop by the Children’s and Teens’ Services Desk and show your Challenge Cards to a member of the Children’s and Teens’ Services staff\, in exchange for a prize book to keep! \nAll challenges must be completed between 18 June–27 August\, and Challenge Cards \nAll registered participants will be send an invitation to meet other readers and celebrate the beginning of the Library’s Summer Reading Challenge on Saturday 18 June at 14h00! DESCRIPTION:The 2022 Young Authors Fiction Festival culminates with a celebration event on Friday 10 June 2022 at the American Library in Paris. Come join us as we celebrate the stories that were selected for top honors and all the young authors who participated in this year’s YAFF. Each finalist will be awarded a certificate and personalised bookmark. YAFF celebration booklets with the stories of all the 1st to 5th place winners will be available for 15€ per booklet at the celebration event. \n  \nThe YAFF celebration event is in two parts: lower grades and upper grades. \nLower Grades 18h00-19h00: The finalists in the lower grades (CP/1st – CM2/5th Grade) are asked to arrive for registration at 17h45\, with the ceremony beginning at 18h00. \nUpper Grades 19h30-20h30: The finalists in the upper grades (6ème/6th Grade – Terminale/12th Grade) are asked to arrive for registration at 19h15\, with the ceremony beginning at 19h30. \nPlease RSVP here \n  \nAbout the Young Authors Fiction Festival \nThe American Library in Paris is proud to be the organizer of the Young Authors Fiction Festival. DESCRIPTION:Riddle Me This: Creating Jokes\n\nFor ages 6–12 \n\nCome along to the Children’s Library to learn about riddles and jokes. Join Children’s and Teens’ Services Manager Celeste and volunteers as we learn how to tell American knock-knock jokes\, and then create your own jokes in classic formats working with idioms and homonyms. \n\n\nEach child (aged 6–12) may participate in the program on their own\, while their chaperone remains inside the Library.\n\n  \n\nImportant information: This event is for Library members\, and advance registration is required. Masks are strongly encouraged for all Library visitors ages 6 and up\, staff\, and volunteers. Caregivers are expected to familiarize themselves with the Library Policy for Children and the Rules and Code of Conduct so that we can provide a pleasant library environment for all patrons. DESCRIPTION:Story Hour: \nWonderful Weather\n\nFor ages 3–5 \n3–5 year-olds and their grown-ups are invited to join us for an interactive Story Hour in a small group! This program lasts an hour\, and features songs\, stories\, and hand rhymes in English. \nFor this Story Hour\, enjoy picture books all about magical creatures\, including Are You Ready to Play Outside? by Mo Willems. This Story Hour will be hosted by Children’s and Teens’ Services Librarian Kirsty McCulloch Reid\, with the help of Library volunteer Mary Wessels. They will read books and lead you and your little one in songs and hand-rhymes during a live\, interactive session. This participatory program is intended to encourage children to actively engage with stories. Plan to join in\, sing along\, and move around\, and model movement and listening for your little one. We ask that caregivers put away their phones and other devices for the duration of this program. \n\n\n\nImportant information: This event is for Library members\, and advance registration is required.
