SUMMARY:Saturday Series: Tongue Twister Tournament (ages 6–12)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]What’s a tongue twister? These difficult phrases are intentionally challenging to say out loud (and fast!). Many tongue twisters are silly\, and include alliteration and rhyming. While some may not make much sense at all\, they’re fun to say\, and fun to try and repeat as fast as you can! Learn classic tongue twisters\, practice\, and see if you can beat the competition in our tongue twister tournament. \nThis event will be hosted by Children’s and Teens’ Services Volunteer Amber Auer with the help of Children’s and Teens’ Services Intern Zara Lees. This activity is entirely in English\, and no translation will be provided. All participants must be able to understand\, speak\, and write in English in order to participate in this program. Stories featured during our Toddler Time programs include short picture books and board books\, such as Puppy Truck by Jerry Pinkney\, which will be included in this 18 July event. This session will be hosted by Assistant Children’s and Teens’ Services Librarian Laurine Lucie. \nThe program is entirely in English\, as are all of our events for children and teens. No translation will be provided. Each child must be accompanied by an adult chaperone\, and chaperones are required to remain with their children for the duration of the program. SUMMARY:Story Hour: Blast Off! (ages 3–5)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]For this Story Hour\, we’ll read stories (factual and fictional) all about space and the planets\, including Rocket Says Look Up! by by Nathan Bryon illustrated by Dapo Adeola (pictured here). We’ll also sing songs and practice rhymes. \nThis program is entirely in English\, and no translation will be provided. This participatory program is intended to encourage children to actively engage with stories. Assistant Children’s and Teens’ Services Librarian Laurine Lucie\, Intern Zara Lees\, and Visiting Library Student Elly Phelan will read books and lead you and your little one in songs and hand-rhymes during a live\, interactive session. Plan to join in\, sing along\, move around\, and model movement and listening for your little one. We ask that all caregivers put away their phones and other electronic devices for the duration of this program.
