SUMMARY:Ways of Seeing with Hisham Matar

Together\, we will dwell with a single painting — Titian’s Man with a Glove — allowing its details\, textures\, and silences to emerge over time. \nDrawing on the sensibility he brings to A Month in Siena\, his luminous meditation on art and the human condition\, Matar allows us to explore what happens when we give a work of art our full attention. What can sustained looking reveal about presence\, vulnerability\, and the passage of time? \nAbout the speaker: \nHisham Matar was born in New York to Libyan parents\, spent his childhood in Tripoli and Cairo and has lived most of his life in London. He is the recipient of numerous international prizes\, including the Premio Gregor von Rezzori\, the Commonwealth Writers Prize\, the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize\, the Slightly Foxed First Biography Prize\, the Prix du livre étranger\, the Geschwister/Scholl Preis\, the Rathbones Folio Prize\, the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award\, the Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography and\, most recently\, the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Important information: The discussion will be available both online and in person. While the conversation will happen in person (the speakers will appear in the Reading Room)\, the Library will stream the conversation on Zoom for a live viewing experience. Both in-person and online attendees will be able to pose questions. \nAttendance at this event constitutes permission for your photograph or video to be taken at the event and used by the American Library in Paris for marketing\, promotional\, pedagogical\, or other purposes.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1758032823591{border-left-width: 8px !important;padding-left: 8px !important;border-left-style: solid !important;border-color: #9e0143 !important;}”] \nEvenings with an Author are free and open to the public (with a 10€ suggested donation)\nthanks to the generous support of GRoW @ Annenberg.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
