Together\, we will dwell with a single painting — Titian’s Man with a Glove — allowing its details\, textures\, and silences to emerge over time. \nDrawing on the sensibility he brings to A Month in Siena\, his luminous meditation on art and the human condition\, Matar allows us to explore what happens when we give a work of art our full attention. What can sustained looking reveal about presence\, vulnerability\, and the passage of time? \nAbout the speaker: \nHisham Matar was born in New York to Libyan parents\, spent his childhood in Tripoli and Cairo and has lived most of his life in London. He is the recipient of numerous international prizes\, including the Premio Gregor von Rezzori\, the Commonwealth Writers Prize\, the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize\, the Slightly Foxed First Biography Prize\, the Prix du livre étranger\, the Geschwister/Scholl Preis\, the Rathbones Folio Prize\, the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award\, the Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography and\, most recently\, the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Important information: The discussion will be available both online and in person. While the conversation will happen in person (the speakers will appear in the Reading Room)\, the Library will stream the conversation on Zoom for a live viewing experience. Both in-person and online attendees will be able to pose questions. \nAttendance at this event constitutes permission for your photograph or video to be taken at the event and used by the American Library in Paris for marketing\, promotional\, pedagogical\, or other purposes.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1758032823591{border-left-width: 8px !important;padding-left: 8px !important;border-left-style: solid !important;border-color: #9e0143 !important;}”] \nEvenings with an Author are free and open to the public (with a 10€ suggested donation)\nthanks to the generous support of GRoW @ Annenberg.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:(Offsite) Festival America: Où va l’Amérique ? With Addie E. Citchens\, Viet Thanh Nguyen\, Chris Pavone\, Peter Van Agtmael\, and Rachel Donadio
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]How do legacies and power dynamics shape individual and collective identities in the United States? What do families pass on when silence replaces memory? From communities in the South to the high-rises of New York\, from the Vietnamese diaspora to post-9/11 America\, authors Addie E. Citchens\, Viet Thanh Nguyen and Chris Pavone\, alongside documentary photographer Peter Van Agtmael\, bring their perspectives together to paint a sensitive portrait of a fractured country\, where the personal constantly sheds light on the political. \nThis event will be moderated by Curator of Cultural Programs at the American Library in Paris\, Rachel Donadio. \nAbout Festival America: \nThe 12th edition of AMERICA will take place in Vincennes from 24–27 September 2026\, welcoming over 60 American authors to celebrate 250 years of the United States through North American literature and culture.\n \nEvery two years since 2002\, the AMERICA festival has brought together writers from North America. Over seven hundred authors from Canada\, Quebec\, the USA\, Mexico\, Cuba and Haiti have come to meet their French readers. For 4 days and 3 evenings\, the Vincennes event offers a rich program of meetings – booksellers’ café\, major interviews\, thematic debates – screenings of adaptations of novels or documentaries\, a children’s festival\, concerts and events combining books and street culture. \nAMERICA’s strength lies in the fact that it brings American voices and texts to Vincennes\, shedding light on the universality of each artist’s work.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1662638079176{border-left-width: 8px !important;padding-left: 8px !important;border-left-color: #9e0143 !important;border-left-style: solid !important;}”][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Important information: This event will take place in person at CŒUR DE VILLE\, AUDITORIUM 98 rue de Fontenay 94300 Vincennes. \nAccess to this event requires purchase of a ticket through Festival America.
