Youth Leadership Program: Deadline to Apply (ages 14-18)

Apply for the Youth Leadership Program 2018-2019!
The American Library in Paris and Toastmasters Paris are pleased to announce that the Youth Leadership Program (YLP) will continue for another season in 2018-2019 for teens ages 14-18! All applications must be received before midnight on 7 August 2018.

The YLP is led by the teen participants themselves with the guidance and support of Toastmasters from several groups in the Paris area and the American Library in Paris children’s and teens’ services manager. Toastmasters participate at each meeting to coach and help evaluate.
Skills you will build during the program:
Organizing and presenting your ideas
Using logic to convince others
Leading a group meetings
Leading and participating in group discussions
Self-confidence in front of a group.
There will be eight sessions (meetings) between September 2018 and May 2019 at the American Library in Paris. Sessions will be held at the American Library in Paris (10 Rue du Général Camou, 75007 Paris) on 21 September, 12 October, 16 November, 18 January, 8 February, 22 March, 12 April, and 10 May.
At the end of the eight sessions, a celebration dinner meeting will be held at the Library.
Participants must be between the ages of 14-18 and fluent in English. If selected, participants must commit to attendance at all eight Friday evening meetings, to writing two speeches to be given at two separate meetings, and to performing an elected role during the meetings (president, vice-president, secretary, etc.). Participants will be given to opportunity to rehearse with an adult mentor before the speeches.
To apply for the 2018-2018 Youth Leadership Program, send an email to The American Library in Paris’ children’s and teens’ services manager, Celeste. In your email, in 400 words or less, tell us about yourself, why you would like to participate in the program and how will will organize your schedule to commit to all eight sessions. Be sure to include your first and last name, age and a mobile number before the body of your application. 12 applicants will be selected. If accepted, participation is free. Applications will be screened by YLP Coordinator Juan-Pablo Chaclan (Speechmasters), past YLP coordinators Beatrice Desper and Colleen Shaughnessy-Larsson (Toastmasters 75), Helen Sahin-Connelly (Gifted in France) and Celeste Rhoads (The American Library in Paris). Participants will be notified of acceptance by August 25.
