Are sports political? How should we approach the 2022 World Cup? A panel of journalists convenes to discuss.

Please note that this event has been postponed until January. Information about the new date will be available soon.

Surrounded by allegations of human rights abuses, suppression of political dissent, and mistreatment of foreign works, the 2022 World Cup kicked off this month. While many broadcasters and reporters are wondering how to cover the tournament in an era when sports are increasingly political, French President Emmanuel Macron waded into the debate, insisting that sport should not be politicized. Join Barney Ronay, chief sports writer for the Guardian, among others, for a panel discussion about the World Cup and how to cover it.

About the speaker:

Barney Ronay, chief sports writer for the Guardian, is the author of various books about football, including How Football (Almost) Came Home, The Manager, and Any Chance of a Game?.
