Visual Storytelling Workshop with Judith Merians: “Stories for the screen”

May 25 @ 14 h 00 min - 16 h 00 min

The Yellow Brick Road, the music in Jaws, the clothes in The Devil Wears Prada, the song in Casablanca, the survivors at the end of Shindler’s List. Impactful, memorable, saying more than words could express. That is visual story telling – a key to holding the viewer’s interest until the end. The difference between exciting a viewer and boring her is the difference between “We’re gonna need a bigger boat” (Jaws) and “Gee that’s a giant shark.” One triggers the imagination and the other states obvious information. Everything in a film that is not just an exchange of words is an element of visual story telling from the opening credits to the music coming out of the radio, the color of the heroine’s dress and the way the guy enters a room. Dialogue that gives rise to images is part of this too. Consider: “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.” In the Visual Story Telling Workshop explore how to create and enrich scenarios through imagery, sounds, colors, motifs, subtext, and scenes that touch the emotions.
