Evenings with an Author: Adam Plowright, The French Exception: Emmanuel Macron – The Extraordinary Rise and Risk

14 March 2018 @ 19 h 30 min

AFP journalist Adam Plowright presents his book The French Exception: Emmanuel Macron – The Extraordinary Rise and Risk, the first in English about the French president, chronicling in great detail his improbably fast rise to the Elysée and his first year as chef d’état. In its review of the book, the newspaper The Hindu wrote, “Plowright’s book is therefore a fine addition to the bookshelf of anyone interested in France, Europe and international geopolitics. The student of human psychology will not be disappointed either.”

About the speaker

Adam Plowright is a British writer with 15 years’ experience working from London, Brussels, New Delhi, and Paris. Now on his third stint as a journalist in the City of Light, he is chief France correspondent for AFP and a regular commentator on Macron seen or heard on the BBC, in The Economist, The Guardian and Al Jazeera English.  His book presents the inside story of Macron’s sudden rise to power, delving into his personal and political background, his vision for the future, and how he is perceived inside France and throughout the rest of the world.
